This ornate and formal master bedroom with its ornamental woodwork and arched niche actually responds to some practical issues. The bedroom is tucked up under a roof, and the roof slope behind the bed limited available headroom. The niche maximizes space at the same time it provides a cozy recess for the bed and nightstands. I designed this quite a while ago when I was working at a design-build firm in the Twin Cities.
